“PITCHING OUR TENTS TOWARD SODOM"
Gen. 13:12

I. THE STORY OF ABRAHAM AND LOT. Gen. 13

II. BOTH WERE SEEKING A CITY

1. Abraham-"a city with foundations." Heb. 11:10  2. Lot-a wicked city of the plains III. LOT GOES GRADUALLY INTO SODOM  1. Considered earthly gain  2. Did not consider evil effects of Sodom  3. Looked for wrong kind of home  4. Reared his family where there were no "people of God." IV. RESULT OF HIS RASH CHOICE  1. Lost his wealth  2. Lost two daughters in Sodom. (Perhaps more)  3. Lost his wife  4. Some of his daughters married evil men  5. Enemies of Israel were born  6. Lost everything because he pitched his tent in the wrong direction CONCLUSION: How often desire for wealth, popularity, and place in this world robs us of the best we have. The farmer often moves to town and sees his children grow up under strange surroundings, only to wish he had kept them away from city life. The unsatisfied man often moves from place to place with little heed to his family's welfare. It is not always best to leave a community where there is a nice congregation and move to a place where there are none of God's people
